Ben Stokes announces withdrawal from T20 World Cup 2024

England all-rounder Ben Stokes has announced his withdrawal from the ICCT20 World Cup 2024.

According to the cricket coverage website ‘Cricinfo’, Ben Stokes has announced his withdrawal from the ICCT20 World Cup in June and has told the management that he will not be available for the mega event in the Caribbean. Don’t want to be part of a team.

Ben scored the winning fifty against Pakistan in the 2022 T20 World Cup at the historic MCG Stadium in Melbourne, but since then Stokes has played only two T20 matches.

Ben Stokes last played a T20 match in the Indian Premier League (IPL) last year.

Earlier, Ben Stokes had announced his retirement from ODI cricket in 2022, but for the ICC Cricket World Cup played in India in 2023, he withdrew his decision. Due to this his knee surgery was delayed.

Ben Stokes bowled only five overs during the five Test matches played in the tour of India this year.

After withdrawing from the ongoing 17th edition of the IPL, Stokes wants to represent the Durham team in some matches in the County Championship.

In a statement released by the England Cricket Board (ECB), Stokes said, ‘I am working hard and focusing on my bowling fitness so that I can play the role of an all-rounder in all formats of cricket. ‘

“By withdrawing from the IPL and the World Cup, I will be able to become the all-rounder I want to be in the future,” he added.

It should be noted here that Ben Stokes is the captain of England’s Test team while Jos Buttler is the captain of England’s ODI and T20 teams.
