‘It hurts him a lot’: Modric unhappy on being benched at Real Madrid

Real Madrid star midfielder Luka Modric is unhappy to be benched by the club this season, according to Spanish media reports.

The Croatian has received limited playing time this season as manager Carlo Ancelotti looks to build his squad around young midfielders as part of the transfer process.

The report added that Modric is also not interested in playing in Saudi Arabia or Major League Soccer.

Luka Modric does not want to play in Saudi Arabia or MLS. He thinks he still has two years at the elite level at Real Madrid,” Spanish radio Cadena SER said on Wednesday.

Modric said being on the bench hurt him

Modric said being on the bench hurt him a lot but he knew he would have played less this season.

“Modric will stay if the club offers him a renewal, he doesn’t want Saudi Arabia. However, Real Madrid have doubts about him.

Meanwhile, right-back Dani Carvajal will be offered a contract extension by Real Madrid, journalist Jose Felix Diaz has confirmed via MARCA.

Madrid will reward Carvajal, a key member of the squad, with a one-year extension as his contract expires in 2025.

At 32, Carvajal has regularly been Ancelotti’s first-choice right-back. Despite being injured, he has made 16 La Liga appearances this season, clocking up over 1,300 minutes.

Carvajal has spent almost his entire career at Real Madrid, apart from a solitary season at Bayer Leverkusen.

Although he will turn 34 in 2026, Real Madrid are confident the defender will be a good fit for the team.

Carvajal is also considered a valuable player by Carlo Ancelotti’s coaching staff and is one of the first names in the starting XI.
