English Premier League: Erling Haaland created a new history

English Premier League: Erling Haaland created a new history, Manchester City striker Erling Haaland broke the record for most goals in a season in his debut season in the Premier League (PL).

In Manchester City’s victory over Fulham, Haaland, 22, scored his 35th league goal, shattering the previous mark held by former English strikers Andy Cole and Alan Shearer, who both scored 34 league goals in 41 and 42 games while playing for Newcastle United and Blackburn Rovers, respectively.

“This is a unique night and unique time. I’m quite content and proud. I’m at a loss for words,” Haaland told Sky Sports. “Of course, I was aware of the record, but we tried to set up scoring opportunities, and it wasn’t simple since they wanted to defend. Although we had trouble in the first half, they eventually arrived.

Earlier, Haaland broke the hat-trick marks of three other legendary Premier League players, including former Manchester United attacker Ruud van Nistelrooy.

With his hat trick against Wolves on January 22, 2023, he surpassed Van Nistelrooy’s record of four in just 19 Premier League appearances for the most hat tricks.

The international player from Norway also surpassed the records set by three other players: Robbie Fowler (fourth hat-trick in 89 games), Alan Shearer (fourth hat-trick in 86 appearances), and Luis Suárez (fourth hat-trick in 81 appearances).

The 22-year-old has now scored 35 Premier League goals in 31 games and 51 overall in 45 games for the English Champions.

Pep Guardiola, the head coach, praised his young goal after it smashed the record for the most goals in a season.

We didn’t anticipate him to surpass Cole and Shearer’s records, though he did score goals. He definitely wants to win the Premier League, I’m very confident of that. Despite having one game remaining, we are only ahead by one point. We must continue forward and heal well, he continued.

On Tuesday, May 9, at the Santiago Bernabeu, Manchester City will square off against 14-time European Champions Real Madrid in the UEFA Champions League semifinal.
