South Africa has not seen anything of value in the T20 World Cup

South Africa has not seen anything of value in the T20 World Cup, Batsman Aiden Markram said South Africa has stopped at nothing to put themselves in the driving seat to qualify for the semi-finals of the T20 world cup despite beating India on Sunday.

A five-wicket victory on a tough track at the Perth Stadium left South Africa top of Group 2 with five points, with two Super 12 matches remaining, one nil off India and Bangladesh.

Only two are at the top, but with Zimbabwe (three points), Pakistan (two), and the Netherlands (0) technically still in the hunt, Markram said South Africa’s focus was only on improvement.

Batsman Aiden Markram said South Africa has stopped at nothing to put themselves in the driving seat to qualify for the semi-finals of the T20 world cup despite beating India on Sunday.

“If we’re on top of the log I think it’s a good thing but we’re certainly not thinking with our foot in the door at the moment,” the right-hander told reporters at Perth Stadium.

“We’ve had a great game against Pakistan so far and we’ve got the Netherlands. And we have seen that teams in the Super 12 stage can beat any team on their day.

“So we still have a lot of cricket to play. And it’s about trying to improve game-wise. If we do that, we give ourselves the best chance to qualify.”

South Africa, targeting victory in the limited-overs World Cup for the first time, arrive in Australia looking for their pace attack to dominate.

The fast bowlers in Perth helped restrict Kohli and Kohli to 133-9 with Lungi Ngadi taking 4-29 and Wayne Parnell 3-15.

The batsmen have maintained their bottom line with the top five in the order barring captain Temba Boma, who has handled the important innings in the first three games.

Markram said the team was behind Boma as the opener tried to end a poor run of form which saw him dismissed for 14 runs in three innings.

I think every player goes through such a dip in form,” said the 28-year-old, who scored a half-century against India.

“I’ve been through this more than once, unfortunately. It’s always just a knock away, and that’s kind of the message for Temba right now.”

South Africa takes on Pakistan in Sydney on Thursday and the Super 12 round-out against the Netherlands in Adelaide on Sunday.
