Zimbabwe vs Pakistan: Quinton de Kock’s heroics go in vain as rain washes out the game

Zimbabwe vs Pakistan, Hobart(intlspl) South African wicketkeeper Quinton de Kock’s 18-ball 47 not out went in vain as their ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 Super 12 match against Zimbabwe was abandoned due to rain.

Set to chase 80 runs in nine overs, South African opener de Kock launched an attack on the Zimbabwean bowlers from the very first over and laid the foundation for the run chase with 23 runs in the first over.

After that, the second over was again interrupted by rain, which resulted in the target being reduced to 64 runs in seven overs.

The wicketkeeper-batsman continued to charge the Zimbabwean bowlers and took his side to 51/0 in just three overs but rain intervened again forcing the match to be abandoned.

Quinton de Kock was unbeaten on 47 off 18 balls, hitting eight fours and a six, while his opening partner Temba Boma faced just two balls and scored maximum runs.

The Zimbabwean all-rounder produced a surprising fightback for his side after a dreadful start and powered the team to a respectable total after reducing the contest to nine overs per side.

Batting first, Zimbabwe faced a fascinating onslaught from South Africa’s pace attack which restricted them to 19/4 in the fourth over.

After the slump, Madhivere and Milton Shamba put on a brilliant fifth-wicket partnership and added 60 runs in just 32 balls.

Shumba, who played the anchoring role with 18 off 20 balls, fell to Enrich Nortje on the last delivery of the innings.

On the other hand, Madhvere scored an unbeaten 35 off just 18 balls for Zimbabwe with the help of four fours and a six.

Lungi Ngidi led South Africa’s bowling attack with two wickets while Wayne Parnell and Noortje dismissed one batsman each.
