2023 World’s 100 Best Footballers: Osemah In, Ronaldo Out

Nigerian forward Victor Osimhan has made the list of the 100 best footballers of 2023, capping off a huge year for his career.

According to the continent’s football governing body CAF, Victor Osimahan finished as the best footballer in Africa this year. The award came after finishing 8th in the 2023 Ballon d’Or, the highest honor for a Nigerian footballer in history.

However, according to FourFourTwo, the 24-year-old Napoli striker is the 14th best footballer in the world in the outgoing year.

Osimhen is not the only Nigerian to make the top 100 Best footballers in the world list, Bayer Leverkusen’s form striker, Victor Boniface made the list but is not even close to the top fifty.

The 22-year-old Nigerian striker has been phenomenal since his move to Bayer Leverkusen, winning the Bundesliga Rookie of the Month for a record five consecutive times.

Despite such a run, he is rated far below the likes of Newcastle United’s Kieran Trippier and Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford.

Interestingly, the 38-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo, who has scored a total of 50 goals for his country Portugal and Club Nasr, is not included in the top 100 Best footballers in the world in 2023 this year so far.

Ronaldo’s career rival, Lionel Messi who is now signed to Inter Miami in Major League Soccer, made the list and was even ranked 6th best.
