Chicago Bears beat woeful Carolina Panthers to increase shot at No. 1 overall pick

Chicago Bears beat woeful Carolina Panthers to increase shot at No. 1 overall pick, D’Onta Foreman ran for a touchdown and the Chicago Bears beat the Carolina Panthers 16-13 on Thursday night to boost their shot at the top pick in next year’s draft.

A win was decided by a third-quarter touchdown run by Foreman, who spent the 2022 season with Carolina.

Matchups between five NFL teams

The matchup between the bottom five teams in the NFL offered the expected drama. But Chicago (3-7) made enough plays to come away with the victory.

Chicago Bears beat woeful Carolina first-rounder in 2024

The Bears also boost their chances at the No. 1 pick because they have Carolina’s 2024 first-rounder. He shared the pick with DJ Moore last March for this year’s top selection.

The Panthers (1-8) are tied with Arizona – who play Atlanta on Sunday – for the worst record in the NFL.

However, they have a weaker schedule than the Cardinals, which would give Chicago the No. 1 pick if the season ended today.

Due to the dislocation of the thumb, they turned aside.

Moore caught five passes for 58 yards against his former team. Rookie Tyson Begant threw for 162 yards in his fourth straight start after Justin Fields was sidelined with a sprained right thumb.

The undrafted rookie out of Division II Shepherd University in West Virginia rarely saw open receivers and completed 20 of 33 passes, after throwing three interceptions and a fumble in last week’s loss at New Orleans.

A touchdown in the first quarter

Carolina’s Ahmir Smith-Marsette returned a punt 79 yards for a touchdown in the first quarter.

But Bryce Young, coming off his worst game as a pro, had another rough season.

The No. 1 draft pick that year was 21 of 38 for 185 yards with a 68.4 passer rating, throwing three interceptions and returning two for a score in the loss to Indianapolis.

“The defense played great, we just wanted to match their hard work, put the ball in the end zone.”
