Varvara Gracheva wins her first match as a French national, Grisheva, 22, who was born in Moscow but trained in France for six years, defeated Romanian Jacqueline Christian 2-6, 2-6 at the Bad Homburg Open tennis tournament in Germany yesterday. Defeated.

World No. 43 Grecheva moved to second in the French women’s standings and will represent her new country (France) when Wimbledon begins on July 3.

Grisheva also participated in the French Open tournament in May but was not registered as a French player as she had not received her French passport at that time.

It should be noted that Russian and Belarusian players will be allowed to compete at Wimbledon this year but will have to adhere to strict rules set by the All England Club.
