Shahid Afridi highlights the importance of PSL 9 ahead of the T20 World Cup

Former captain Shahid Afridi highlighted the importance of season nine of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) ahead of the T20 World Cup this year.

Afridi believes that the PSL 9 starting today will be crucial in terms of Pakistan’s squad selection for the World Cup.

The brilliant all-rounder also said that PSL is his favorite T20 league.

It should be noted that Lahore Qalandars and Islamabad United will face each other in the opening match of PSL 9 at Gaddafi Stadium on Saturday.

Islamabad won the title twice in 2016 and 2018 while Lahore is the defending champions and will be aiming for a third consecutive title after registering impressive wins in 2022 and 2023.

Both teams will start the new season of PSL together. With several quality players on both sides of the explosion, an epic contest is expected between the two powerhouses of the league.

The two sides have met a total of 17 times and Islamabad has a slight edge with 9 wins. However, Lahore has dominated their counterparts since 2021 as they have won all five competitions between them.

Like the previous edition, PSL 9 will also be held in two legs with 14 matches from February 17 to 27 at the Multan Cricket Stadium and the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. The matches will be held from February 28 to March 12. After that, the event will completely shift to Karachi for the playoffs.

Teams like Kings, Qalandars, Sultans, and United will play 5 fits at their respective home grounds whilst Peshawar Zalmi will play 4 matches at Pindi Cricket Stadium.

On the opposite hand, Quetta Gladiators will play 3 matches each in Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi, one suit will be performed towards domestic aspect Sultans at Multan Cricket Stadium on February 25.
