Real Madrid suffered a blow ahead of the match against Atletico Madrid

Real Madrid beat Getafe 2-0 in their La Liga match at the Estadio Coliseum on Thursday to go top of the table but the win came at a heavy price just three days before they faced city rivals Atletico Madrid.

A goal from on-loan striker Joselo Mato guided Los Blancos to a comfortable 2-0 win as Carlo Ancelotti’s men moved past Girona to sit as table-toppers at the weekend.

The Whites face Atletico Real Madrid on Sunday (February 4), but will be without one of their key players, Aurelien Tchouameni, who received a yellow card just before the final whistle as he received his fifth league suspension.

The Frenchman was booked in the 92nd minute for a chance that was later ruled offside and according to sources close to the club, nobody understood the decision and decided to appeal.

Real Madrid Will Appeal Tchouameni’s Yellow Card

On the other hand, Antonio Rudiger suffered a knock on the thigh during the first half. The German tackled to win the ball against Mason Greenwood but his thigh ended up hitting an opponent’s knee and he was eventually substituted.

The extent of the 30-year-old’s injury is still unknown but so far, all indications are that he will not feature in Sunday night’s Madrid derby at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Speaking after the match, Ancelotti opened up about Tchouameni’s booking, saying he had no idea what had happened.

I don’t know what happened, he got a card and Chomeini will not be available for the next game,” the Italian said after the match. “Rudiger has a knock and we will see what happens in the next few days.

“We have two days for him to recover. It’s a serious blow to the muscle. Rudiger is a fighter and it’s complicated that he won’t make the game because of a little injury.

If Rudiger misses the Real Madrid derby, Ancelotti will play Ferland Mendy alongside Nacho Fernandez.

Remember, Real Madrid are already without two of their first-choice center-backs, Eder Militao and David Alaba, as both players tore their ACLs earlier this season.
